A RETIRED man died after suffering from complications from a medication prescribed to him.

A written inquest was formally concluded at Warrington Coroner’s Court on Wednesday into the death of David Fletcher.

The married, retired chemical engineer was born in St Helens in 1947, and was living in Guilden Sutton, Chester, at the time of his death.

He passed away on February 13 at Countess of Chester Hospital, having been admitted following a cardiac arrest on February 6.

The court heard the 76-year-old had been prescribed capecitabine chemotherapy medication following surgery to remove a tumour.

The medication carried a recognised but rare risk of cardiac spasms, it was said.

Alexander Frodsham, assistant coroner for Cheshire, reached a narrative conclusion regarding the death.

It was written that the death was a consequence of a recognised but rare complication arising out of chemotherapy medication.

Confirming the written conclusion, Jacqueline Devonish, senior coroner for Cheshire, said: “The matter is formally concluded.

“All that remains is to express condolences to his family.”
