A MAN was rushed to hospital this morning following reports that he was assaulted and stabbed.

Merseyside Police were contacted by the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) at around 9.25am this morning (Thursday, April 25), following reports of an assault on Blackbrook Road.

Officers found that a man in his 20s had been stabbed and suffered an injury to his chest and shoulder.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Police have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway, with house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

In the early part of the investigation, officers believe that two men ran off following the incident and they are appealing to anyone who may have information.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Blackbrook Road at around 9.25am morning, who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us.

“We believe there may have been two other men in the area at the time who ran off following the stabbing and we would ask anyone who has any information about who they might be to come forward.”
