A DANCE studio in St Helens has reached new heights after moving to a bigger and better premises.

Vibrance Dance Studio moved to The Citadel, St Helens in July last year after formerly running from the Gospel Hall in Haydock.

Since the move, owner Heather Whittle said that the school has "taken off", welcoming new students of all ages.

The school is open six days a week, teaching students from 18 months to adults in a variety of dance styles, from ballet to street dance.

Heather, 25, who is originally from Haresfinch, said: “When we moved I was worried that this wasn’t going to work.

"I started with a class just doing a one-to-one session so it felt like a big jump to take on this huge building. But it has just taken off, the kids love the multiple floors and the stage which they can practice on.”

After starting her business with just one dancer, Vibrance now caters for around 78 children, 12 babies, and 17 adults.

Some children even come six times a week, with a student lounge open to all, for those who want to chill out or do their homework after school.

Others have decided to give back to the studio, helping with admin work, doing work experience or with seniors assisting with baby classes, and Heather said that the group is like "one big family".

With most students finding the school through word of mouth, the studio has also introduced singing and drama classes after hiring a new teacher to help with demand.

Asked about why she started the dance school, Heather added: “I have danced since I was three years old and it has always been a dream of mine.

“I have always wanted to be a dance teacher, I have a love of dancing and bringing people together. At 19 years old I used to teach one child at Denton’s Green.

“It’s so rewarding. One of the first children I taught one-to-one when I was starting as come through the school and is now in adult classes.”

Though not a competition school, Heather ensures the students have as much experience as possible, performing shows at places such as Newcastle and St Helens Theatre Royal.

The group have more in store for the future, with plans to hire more new teachers and perform for the Rugby World Cup in October.
