A SUPERINTENDENT has been presented with a certificate of recognition for his "exceptional service" to St Helens ahead of his upcoming retirement.

Formerly an inspector based at St Helens Police station on College Street, Steve Brizell was promoted as Merseyside Police's lead officer for the borough four years ago.

During this time, Spt Brizell is reported to have shown excellent leadership during the pandemic and is noted as being a supportive partner to the council.

The superintendent has also spoken with the Star on multiple occasions to communicate with the public on police operations, such as an increased targeting against anti-social behaviour, for example.

Councillor Mancyia Uddin, St Helens Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: "Over the previous four years, and previously during his time as an Inspector at St Helens, Steve has been a supportive partner to the local authority and to the wider Community Safety Partnership.

"Joining us during the challenging period of the pandemic, Steve has built trusted relationships across the partnership and will leave a positive legacy for the policing response locally.

"Steve has demonstrated the impact of what we can achieve when we work together with shared aims.

"[This has been seen in] delivering improvements across policing at a local level, including in bringing a new Town Centre Team to the borough, working as a core member of the Children’s Safeguarding response, supporting Public Health on the Combatting Drugs programme and leading innovation in responding to serious violence and improving our night time economy.

"On behalf of the Safer St Helens Executive, thank you Steve – we wish you well for your future."
