ST HELENS Council say it is "saddened" following news of St Helens Chamber going into administration, but adds help is available for those affected.
The Star reported earlier today how St Helens Chamber has today gone into administration with immediate effect, leading to redundancies among the majority of its 71 staff.
This has shocked the community, with many taking to social media to voice their upset and concern.
Commenting on the news, Councillor Kate Groucutt, cabinet member for economy, business and skills, said: “We are saddened to hear of the closure of St Helens Chamber.
“It has played an important role in representing the borough’s business community for many years and has supported thousands of people through apprenticeships, training and development opportunities.
“As a valued partner in many projects across the borough its loss will be felt greatly.
“Although the Chamber is an independent organisation, we are offering to provide or broker support for those directly affected by the closure, in particular the staff and those currently completing an apprenticeship or training programme.
“We will also be taking steps to ensure that support for businesses and start-ups continues to be available locally."
