TWO men charged in connection with a serious crash on the East Lancashire Road in which two people were injured have made a first court appearance.

Police confirmed two suspects have been charged following the serious road traffic collision, which happened on the East Lancs, near Houghtons Lane, Eccleston, on Boxing Day in 2022.

It was reported on Monday, December 26, 2022, at around 6.15pm that a grey Fiat Punto, a grey Honda Civic and black BMW 435, were involved in a crash that resulted in two people suffering serious injuries.

A woman suffered serious injuries to both her legs and ribs, while a man suffered rib injuries. They both received treatment in hospital and were later discharged.

Christopher Heyes, 29, of Hewitt Avenue, Old Eccleston, was charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, Darren Winstanley, 38, of Fleet Lane, Parr, was charged with driving a motor vehicle dangerously.

Winstanley appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on February 23, and Heyes on March 1. 

The case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where both defendants are due to next appear on Friday, March 22.

Heyes and Winstanley were both granted unconditional bail until then.
