POLICE have given an update and shared more details in relation to arrests that were made near to the East Lancs after a pursuit.

Two suspects were detained on Tuesday afternoon following the chase which commenced after a VW Passat had failed to stop for police on Blackbrook Road.

The pursuit was launched, with two suspects eventually detained off the East Lancs, near to Haydock Island after the car had come to a stop.

Police dogs and a helicopter were called to assist during the pursuit.

A police spokesman has confirmed the alleged offences that the men were arrested on suspicion of.

A 24-year-old man from Haydock was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving; drug driving; failing to stop; failing to provide a specimen; possession of cannabis; and possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man, also from Haydock, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving; failing to stop; failing to provide a specimen; possession of cannabis; and possession of a knife/bladed article in a public place.

Both men have since been released under investigation pending further inquiries, the spokesman added.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said on Tuesday after the arrests: "We can confirm that two men have been arrested following a pursuit in St Helens and Haydock this afternoon, Tuesday, February 27.

"At around 1.05pm, a VW Passat failed to stop for police in Blackbrook Road.

"A pursuit was authorised and with the assistance of the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter and dog patrols, two men were detained off the East Lancs Road near to Haydock Island after the car came to a stop."
