Foundry Wharf residents plagued by 'dangerous' parking near complex

David Allen, who has been living at Foundry Wharf, near Atlas Street, Fingerpost, for two and a half years, said the issue has been a long-running one.

He believes the problem stems from workers at the nearby Torus and Atlas House buildings, parking in the area because the car park at the site gets full.

Throughout the week, the road is “jam-packed with cars parked along the road”, he said, adding that a nearby wasteland, is also being used as an “overflow car park”, despite warning notices.

David, 54, says the issue of the double-parking on the road, which has yellow lines, is becoming “dangerous” for the residents at Foundry Wharf, many of whom have mobility issues.

“We have ambulances coming down this way, I’m not sure whether it is causing problems for that, it is getting out of hand,” said David.

“I have been in contact with St Helens Council about this, and they said they are not responsible for it, they’re saying is a private road.”

David, who is a carer for his wife, added: “Unless people actually see it, they wouldn’t believe it. If this was the town centre, there would be tickets on every car.

“No-one seems to take any responsibility for it.

“There are a lot of people with mobility issues and it is obstructing people with wheelchairs and scooters, it is absolutely dangerous for them.

"It dangerous and something needs to be reported so someone will take notice."

When asked about the matter, St Helens Council said they are “doing what we can” to prevent any further issues and are working alongside partners to try and address the problem.

A St Helens Borough Council spokesperson said: “We can understand residents’ frustrations with the situation they are currently facing in this area and are doing what we can to restrict any further issues.

“We are currently working alongside our partners to find a solution to address this problem and we remind motorists who use that area they have a duty to not cause obstructions for others.” 

A Torus spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, and asked the Star to contact the council over the issue.
