NO arrests have been made following allegations that a business owner was stabbed by would-be-burglars in Haydock.

At around 8.40pm on November 30, a man is alleged to have disturbed a group of five people attempting to burgle his business, Izzy's Turkish Barbers, when the incident turned violent.

The barber, who identified himself as Ismail Yigit, was left with stab wounds to his head and hands and had to be rushed to hospital with his injuries, with the group reported to have run off towards Central Drive in Haydock.

At the time of the alleged stabbing, Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram described the incident as "despicable".

He also said that "everyone has the right to feel safe in their home and business owners have every right to work hard and earn a living without criminals causing physical and emotional damage".

Merseyside Police confirmed that "enquiries remain ongoing" in relation to the incident, but the suspects remain at large seven weeks later.

Ismail, who has done lots of community work since opening his business in Haydock, expressed his despair at the situation and that no arrests have been made.

Stating that the incident "ruined [his] life", the 48-year-old further alleged that this was the fifth time that his business has been broken into on Clipsey Lane.

Speaking previously to the Star, Ismail, 48, said: "I am just a businessman so I really don't know why these people have come for me and my business.

"I have done a lot in the community, such as giving free haircuts, Christmas appeals, and sponsoring football and rugby teams.

"All of Haydock and my customers have come together for me, so I do feel loved, but I am having to sleep with things behind my door now."
