ST HELENS North MP Conor McGinn has marked a hundred years of St Helens Rotary by tabling a motion in the House of Commons congratulating them on the anniversary and their work.

The motion states that this House congratulates Rotary St Helens on the 100th anniversary of its formation in 1923; notes its commitment to the borough through volunteering, charitable work, and community activities; commends it on receiving the Kings Award for Voluntary Service in its centenary year; and wishes its members well as they continue to put Service Above Self locally, nationally and globally.

McGinn said: “Led by this year's president Simon Hairsnape, St Helens Rotary plays such an important role in the community, from its international campaign to eradicate Polio to work on the St Helens Heritage trail, its contribution to the health and well-being of our community has been fantastic, through its members many hours of voluntary work, participation in community activities and support for other local charities.

“I have seen firsthand the contribution that Rotary makes to our community across St Helens.

“I was delighted to be able to mark this centenary and thank local Rotarians for their efforts, which have now been recognized in Parliament.”

In May, Mr McGinn, who has held the seat since 2015, announced he would not seek re-election, citing a number of health problems, including a heart condition, that he has faced over the past year.
