POLICE were called out after an argument broke out between a motorist and a parking enforcement warden this morning in St Helens town centre.

A police presence was seen on Corporation Street, near to Victoria Square, at around 11.30am on Monday, January 15.

When asked why officers were in the area, a Merseyside Police spokeswoman told the Star it was following "a verbal argument between a motorist and parking enforcement officer".

She added: "Officers attended and spoke to both parties but as this is a civil matter no further action will be taken."
