ST HELENS' hero fundraiser Andy Reid will feature on the BBC's Songs of Praise programme this weekend.

After losing three of his limbs while serving with the British Army in Afghanistan, the Rainford dad-of-two has completed challenges such as Everest Base Camp and Mount Kilimanjaro to inspire others.

The challenges have helped Andy raise thousands for his Standing Tall Foundation, which supports the delivery of mental health counselling and addiction support services in St Helens.

While Andy is well known to many across St Helens, his story will be broadcast on the BBC's Songs of Praise on Sunday, January 7.

Songs of Praise is the longest running religious television programme in the world, and first broadcast in October 1961.

The programme showcases packed out churches and venues with enthusiastic congregations, while also shining a light on how faith has helped people across the country.

Andy Reid will feature as part of the programme's 'New Year New You' segment, after being filmed at Ruskin Sports Village with presenter Sean Fletcher.

The segment will elaborate on how his faith has helped him through his journey, and challenges, and inspired him to fundraise for charity. It will also touch on his challenges for this year, which include another trek up Mount Everest.

Songs of Praise will be broadcast on BBC 1 at 1.15pm on Sunday, January 7.
