A COLDER and drier spell of weather is on the way.
The festive holidays were accompanied by sustained and, at times, torrential rainfall.
Today (Friday) will be mostly cloudy with some showers, according to the BBC.
Tonight, it will turn mostly dry with prolonged clear spells developing from the west later on.
There could be patchy mist and fog in the early hours, with a change in temperatures as the weather turns chillier.
Saturday could see some low cloud or patchy mist and fog to start and it could be as cold as zero or 1C at 8am.
The forecast for St Helens is for sunny spells, which may develop later but cloud could linger in places.

Temperatures could rise to about 5C in the afternoon before it becomes chiller again in the evening.
Sunday is expected to see a misty and chilly start, with sunny spells in the afternoon.
The outlook for next week is for dry and chilly weather.
