A BEAUTICIAN and dog lover has been raffling off treatments to support XL Bully owners as a new banning order has come into effect.

Following a number of serious attacks across the country, XL Bullies were added to the Dangerous Dogs Act at the end of the year, making it illegal to buy, sell, or breed them.

While many have supported the new laws, XL Bully owners have been distressed as the breed must now be microchipped, neutered, and kept on a lead and muzzle in public.

Owners also have to pay £92.50 for each dog's Certificate of Exemption, and apply for liability insurance for the banned breed.

Aware of the social and financial difficulties facing XL Bully owners, Kate Mahoney has decided to use her business to help those struggling with the muzzle and exemption costs.

An aesthetics practitioner and make-up artist, Kate has been raffling off her beauty products and treatments and has raised more than £600 to support six families with the new restrictions.

Kate, who owns two XL Bullies, said: "Since the news of the XL Bully ban it has had a big impact on people of the community who currently own this breed, and a lot of people have been worried about how they will financially pay to get their dog exempt.

"I have a lot of loyal clients that have helped me raise money by doing raffles to raise payments, and the people that win the raffles receive treatments from me. So far I have managed to help six families exempt their dog and I will continue to help.

"I gain no profit from any of this, I do this as a dog lover. I currently own two dogs of this breed and completely understand the worry some families will currently be going through not knowing the safety of their dog."
