A NEW policing team dedicated to St Helens town centre has made an arrest after allegations a man was being “abusive and intimidating”.
The newly formed neighbourhood team was flagged down by a member of the public on Church Street on Tuesday.
Officers were told a suspect had been behaving aggressively.
A 50-year-old man was later arrested in connection with alleged public order offences.
In a statement, police said: “The town centre should be a place where people feel safe to live their lives free from abuse and aggression - anybody wishing to impose on or restrict that freedom will be dealt with robustly.
“We won't stand for anti-social behaviour in our town centre and welcome positive conversations with the public about your concerns.
“We look forward to seeing you out and about in the run up to Christmas.”
