TWO people have been arrested following a fatal crash on Islands Brow this morning (Friday, December 1).

Emergency services were called just before 6.30am to Islands Brow, close to its junction with Hinckley Road, to a report a cyclist was injured on the road.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment.

Despite the efforts of medical staff at hospital, he later died.

Merseyside Police confirmed this evening that a 60-year-old man and 31-year-old woman from the St Helens area have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.

They remain in custody and urgent enquiries are continuing.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Haresfinch and Parr area of St Helens, particularly those travelling on Woodlands Road, Green Leach Lane, Islands Brow or Park Road, between the hours of 6.17am and 6.31am to get in touch.

Sergeant Simon Duffy said: "We are also keen to speak to anyone that noticed a silver coloured Skoda Fabia hatchback in these areas and I would urge people to review their dashcam if they travelled in the area at this time and speak to us as a matter of urgency if they believe they captured something significant."
