TWO people, including a police officer, suffered injuries after a patrol car was involved in a crash with another vehicle, last night.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision on North Road, St Helens involving a black Volkswagen Passat and a marked police car, which was responding to an emergency incident.

The crash happened at about 9.30pm on Sunday and led to a huge presence of police and emergency crews being on the scene.
 
A police spokesperson said the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not life-threatening.

The police officer suffered a serious injury to his arm.

The patrol car appeared to have struck a garden wall, midway up North Road.

In a statement Merseyside Police added: "An investigation into the collision is being carried out, and we are appealing for anyone who saw the collision on North Road, or who has dashcam footage, to contact police as soon as possible.   
 
"Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact police via @MerPolCC on Twitter (X) or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook, with reference 23001193137. 

"This incident is being referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct."
