A TEENAGE boy has been arrested after a group of youths “threw fireworks” near members of the public in Prescot.

It has been reported that a group of young people were throwing fireworks in Prescot town centre on Saturday, October 14.

Following an investigation into anti-social behaviour, Merseyside Police have confirmed that they have arrested a 13-year-old boy in connection with the incident.

This is the second arrest in connection with the incident, with a 14-year-old also arrested earlier in the week.

Officers stated that both boys have been released from custody with conditions preventing them from entering Prescot Town Centre.

The family of further young people have been contacted as part of the Force’s investigation into anti-social behaviour.

Knowsley Neighbourhood Inspector, Mark Berry said, "In the run up to this Halloween and Bonfire Night we are, sadly, coming into contact with young people we’ve never had dealings with before.

“Their parents have expressed genuine shock, sadness and disappointment when we’ve had to make contact with them about what their children have done.

“Having to bring kids into custody is not something we ever want to have to do – it’s an incredibly stressful environment for them, and equally upsetting for their parents who we also have to bring in.

“Even the most well-behaved kids make mistakes, but if that mistake involves fireworks not only is it incredibly dangerous, we have no choice but to take serious action.

“Please talk to the young people in your care. Check up on where they are and who they’re with. We don’t want to see them, or you, in custody."
