SELFLESS children and volunteers took to the streets of Earlestown earlier this month to place the winter bedding plants in the town centre planters.

Business for Youth, a charity in Newton-le-Willows, aims to provide children and young people with opportunities in the community, and organises a range of activities and fundraisers throughout the year.

These activities includes arts and crafts clubs, family walks, Easter egg and Christmas appeals, summer games, and much more.

As the winter months approach, a group of dedicated children from the groups gardening club have prepared and fed each planter, following the flowers which flourished in the summer.

The children have also helped with the Veterans Garden of Remembrance recently, as well as assisting the Sankey Canal Restoration Society in cutting down Willow and balsams.

Terry Maguire, independent councillor for Newton-le-Willows West and Earlestown, said: "These events create a wonderful sense of respect and ownership of nice things in our community. The enthusiasm from each child is a pleasure to see.

"Our group are delighted to have children helping in our community, we hope it will build respect and good feel for their own town. To see children enjoying and learning in the great outdoors instead of being sat watching a screen is fantastic to see."
