A NEW weather warning has been issued for the north west amid Storm Babet.

The Met Office had previously issued an amber weather warning for the region regarding rainfall during the storm.

Today, Friday, the Met Office has released a yellow weather warning for wind, too.

The latest warning lasts into tomorrow, Saturday.

As per the Met Office's website, individuals can expect:

  • It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

The website also includes tips on staying safe during periods of strong wind, which includes advice such as:

  • Checking for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them in high winds
  • Driving slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts - be aware of high-sided vehicles/caravans on more exposed roads
  • Staying indoors as much as possible; if you do go out, try not to walk or shelter close to buildings and trees

Northern has issued a warning to passengers travelling during Storm Babet, urging individuals to check for updates on their journey before embarking.

'Extreme weather' has already seen trees falling onto railway lines, disrupting journeys across the region.
