TRAFFIC was held on a motorway due to a "police incident" this afternoon.
According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the incident on the M57 between junction 2 T A57 Liverpool Road, Prescot to junction 4 A580 Moorgate Road, Knowsley, led to a large emergency services presence being at the scene.
Images posted on social media showed large queues of traffic on the motorway
Police confirmed the issue related to the concern for a person's safety.

National Highways North West stated shortly before 4pm that the incident had been resolved and traffic has been released.
