FOUR thieves have broken into a convenience store and stolen cash boxes.

Police are appealing for information following the reported break-in at the Co-op in Rainford in the early hours of this morning, Monday, September 25.

At around 12.10am, it was reported that three to four males had broken into the shop on Church Road, and stole cash boxes.

They then left the area in a car, believed to be a red Ford.

Police are in the early stages of an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Officers have remained at the scene this morning and a patrol car has been seen at the front of the shop.

A picture sent by a Star reader showed the store’s roller shutters were damaged in the break-in.

Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “Theft from a business is not a victimless crime as they have a huge impact on the community in many ways.

“We are urging anyone who lives in the area and has doorbell or CCTV footage to check at around the time of the incident to see if they captured anything that could help our investigation.

“We are also appealing for any drivers that may have captured dashcam footage to please get in touch so we can bring them to justice.”
