EARLESTOWN'S Wilko will open for the final time today.

As previously reported by the Star, Earlestown's Wilko was named on a list of stores that will close on Tuesday, September 19.

It comes after weeks of uncertainty following Wilko's slip into administration last month, with numerous bids failing to take over the whole business.

It is a sad moment for the Market Street store and the staff members who have served the Earlestown community for many years.

With Wilko's set to close for the final time at 5pm today (Tuesday, September 19), a message has been placed outside of the Earlestown store to encourage regular customers to say their final goodbyes.

The message reads: "We close our doors for the final time on Tuesday, September 19, at 5pm.

"All the team will be in and we would love our lovely customers to wave us off from outside as our shutter falls for the final time.

"We will miss you, thank you all."

Following the closure news of the Market Street Wilko, many Newton and Earlestown shoppers took to social media to express their disappointment and highlight the impact that staff had in the community.

Others have brought in cards to Wilko staff members to show their appreciation for their long service.
