WHISTON, St Helens and Newton hospitals have been recognised as being among the best hospitals in the country for inpatient care, according to the Care Quality Commission Adult Inpatient Survey 2022.
The annual survey looked at the experience of patients who stayed at least one night in hospital in November 2022.
It asked patients for their views on all aspects of their care, such as: the hospital environment, communication with staff, involvement in decisions, and being treated with dignity and respect.
Whiston, St Helens and Newton hospitals, part of Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, came second in the country and best in the region in the ranking of general acute and combined trusts.
The hospitals’ score has improved annually since 2019 – proof of a continued commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care despite the national challenges facing the NHS.
Whiston, St Helens and Newton hospital bosses say that on average, patients rated the overall experience as 8.5 out of 10, the hospitals’ highest ever score.
Patients scored the hospitals particularly highly for cleanliness of rooms or wards (9.5), having confidence and trust in the doctors treating them (9.4) and being treated with respect and dignity (9.3).
In a statement, chief executive Ann Marr said: "I am delighted that patients have rated our hospitals so highly in the latest CQC Adult Inpatient Survey.
"Our team work extremely hard to maintain the highest standards and these results highlight our commitment to providing consistently high quality care for our patients.”
