THE owner of The Running Horses pub is looking to rebrand in a bid to get punters back in the town centre – and wants the public’s help to pick a new name.

Following the closure of the Wetherspoons venue in November 2021, The Running Horses reopened under the same name on Chalon Way in March 2023 after being taken over by Lancashire-based independent company Green Leisure.

The prime location, which first started life as a Chicago Rock back in 2001 is co-owned by Jeremy Peel, 51, and Ben Gregg, 29, who took on a former Wetherspoons pub in Lancaster seven years ago with St Helens being their newest venture.

And with a look to the future, the pair are looking to rebrand the venue and are taking serious suggestions from the public as to what it should be.

St Helens Star:

One person helping to make changes is DJ Karl Winstanley, known as DJ Wink.

He said: “We are all about bringing the good times back to St Helens, we’ve had several themed nights and are working with the nearby venues to bring music nights into the area starting at one venue and moving on to the others after a set.

“We need to support our local pubs and clubs and help them look to the future.

St Helens Star:

“So with that in mind we are holding a competition for people to help pick an original name for the bar.

“Any serious name suggested will receive a £5 cocktail voucher and the overall winner will receive a £200 cocktail voucher.

“All votes need to be made via our Facebook page by the closing date, which is August 31.”
