A YOUNG suspect remains under police investigation after reports that a man was shot in the leg in Rainford last summer.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, Merseyside Police were alerted to reports of a shooting at the Golden Lion pub, on Church Road in Rainford, on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

Armed police and an air ambulance are said to have attended the scene at the time, with police cordoning off the area to deal with the incident.

The reported shooting is believed to have taken place in the car park of the village pub, with the victim taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not believed to have been life-changing.

It was reported that a private christening was taking place in the establishment's marquee, when two suspects wearing dark clothing entered the pub grounds on an electric bike, and left on the same bike a short time later.

Following inquiries, a 21-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested in August 2022, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and wounding.
