LEGENDARY rock band The Who will play a concert in St Helens tonight, Friday, July 21 2023.

They are due perform at Saints' Totally Wicked Stadium with an orchestra.

Also joining them for the gig will be UB40 featuring Ali Campbell.

Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey and band will be performing music from throughout the band’s nearly 60-year career, including sections devoted to classic albums Tommy and Quadrophenia as well as other beloved Who tracks and songs from their 2019 WHO album, their first studio release in 13 years.

The gigs follow last year’s highly acclaimed ‘The Who Hits Back’ tour of the US, where the band shared the with some of the finest orchestras in America.

It is another huge music night at the stadium, which hosted Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott last year.

The Star understands ticket sales for the concert were slugglish up until a few weeks ago, however, they have been heavily promoted at discounted prices ovee the past few days.

In a statement looking forward to the concert the band said: "Our next appearance will be Friday 21 July 2023 when we'll be in St Helens up on Merseyside at the Totally Wicked Stadium, home of the Saints, St Helens Rugby Football Club, one of the finest rugby league teams and currently Super League and World Club Challenge champions.

"So, BIG respect to these guys.

"This will be our first ever time in St Helens.

"We've played Warrington a couple of times – 1965 at Parr Hall and 1966 at the Co-op Hall, and Liverpool many, many times including The Cavern club on 31 October 1965. It's great to finally play at St. Helens.

"Our special guests will be UB40 Featuring Ali Campbell and appearing first will be Standin’ Man.

"If you have tickets, we hope you have a really great night.

"The weather forecast hints at a few showers so better put your parkas on or a pac-a-mac or poncho. Whichever you choose, you’ll still be an ace face."
