A MAN charged with causing the death of a mum-of-four by dangerous driving has made a first court appearance. 

Police confirmed on Saturday that a suspect had been charged following a fatal road collision in Parr.

Mum-of-four Michelle Atherton died in the crash which happened on Wednesday, July 5.

Kevin Marsh, of Redgate Drive, Parr, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing death while uninsured.

The fatal collision occurred at the junction of Broad Oak Road and Delta Road at 7am on July 5, and involved a white Ford Fiesta and a refuse wagon.

Michelle Atherton, 47, was treated at the scene for a serious head injury and was taken to hospital where she sadly died a short time later.

Marsh, 43, appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Saturday, July 15.

During the hearing, the case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court, where Marsh will next appear.

The 43-year-old was remanded back into custody and is due before the higher court on Friday, August 11.

On Saturday, Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with Michelle’s family and they are still being supported by specially trained officers. I would also like to thank the local community for their help to date with this investigation. 

“Although a man has been charged in connection with this incident, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”
