LIVE music racedays at Haydock Park are always tremendous events.

Having covered a number of gigs at the racecourse over the years, I was fully expecting Saturday to follow this trend – and I was not disappointed.

A crowd, who we were informed on entrance was sold out, enjoyed fun in the sun throughout the evening, before making their way down the course to be wowed by Craig David.

It is great to see Haydock welcome some of the biggest names in music every summer, and the number of people who both attended the raceday and stayed for the concert afterwards shows just how popular these sort of events are.

And David certainly lived up to the event, performing a number of his biggest hits.

Particular appreciation was shown by the crowd to renditions of Walking Away and Fill Me In – and that is before even mentioning Seven Days, which he ended on as an encore.

Last summer, more than 16,000 packed into the course to be treated to a Madness medley, with racecourse directors stating it was probably the biggest crowd for ten years.

Scenes of this were reminiscent on Saturday too, with thousands of racegoers dancing away to the tracks of the 42-year-old singer and songwriter.

He certainly seemed to be enjoying himself as well, wearing a beaming smile throughout and telling the crowd how great it was to be in Haydock with them.

The good news is that Haydock will be staging another live music night in August, with the racecourse welcoming back Nile Rodgers and Chic.

Having last performed at the venue in summer 2019, the group rolled back the years with a vintage performance, so it is set up to be another excellent evening of both racing and music.

This will take place on Friday, August 11, with tickets available by visiting thejockeyclub.co.uk/haydock/
