A BUS operator is offering a lifeline for workers who have been made redundant after Tuffnells fell into administration.

What is being offered?

Stagecoach in Greater Manchester is offering interviews to staff affected by the recent closure of the Haydock depot of delivery firm Tuffnells following the news that more than 2,000 jobs are set to be lost at the firm across the country.

Stagecoach Manchester has bus driver vacancies across Greater Manchester with immediate starts available.

Roles are available for both existing PCV license holders and those looking to train to be a bus driver. There are further opportunities for school bus drivers for anyone looking for weekday/term time work, which will be in the Wigan and Bolton area.

PCV license holders joining the business will be offered a £1,200 welcome bonus.

Those looking to gain their license will have all their training paid for and will earn from day one.

'We understand what a stressful time this must be'

Rebecca Rathore, operations director at Stagecoach Manchester, said: “We understand what a stressful time this must be for those facing redundancy and want to welcome all Tuffnells employees to apply for vacancies at Stagecoach.”

St Helens Chamber offers support

Meanwhile, St Helens Chamber has offered support for affected workers.

Support available includes CV creation and review and interview skills, free training courses, Rapid Response Service funding – access to paid-for training courses that will support in finding new employment and more.

Ruby O’Brien, senior career coach at the Chamber, said: “We are so sorry to hear about Tuffnells, and would like to offer support to any staff affected by the redundancies. St Helens Chamber has qualified Careers Advisers on hand to offer a range of CV, application, interview support – alongside free short courses to add valuable skills to your CV.

“We can also help you access funding to complete paid-for training courses that will support you to retrain and find new employment. We also have close links with local employers, and can give those we work with priority access to vacancies with these employers.
