A CHILDREN’S charity in Newton-le-Willows has expressed its gratitude to local businesses.

Business for Youth, a not-for-profit organisation, was thankful to receive a generous donation from The Hive Street Hive, which enabled the charity to decorate the town.

Volunteers and youths recently worked in the town to plant floral baskets and decorate the area ahead of summer.

The £500 funding, which BFY received from businesses last month, allowed the charity to purchase the supplies needed to execute the project.

Terry Maguire, chair and trustee of Business for Youth, said: "To watch children work on community projects in our town, creates an ownership and a pride within them that they can purvey to others.

"We have been watering the flowers regularly through this dry spell with the help of Crumpets and Heron staff watering the two at each end of town, so the project is very communal.

"Thankfully The High Street Hive donated £500 to BFY, and we were looking for a project to use it on, so we used that for flowers.

"It does seem nice that the Hive has helped fund flowers in Earlestown; a community working together to benefit all."

Business for Youth also took part in The Hive's recent May Markets on Newton High Street.
