HUNDREDS of residents turned out for a celebration of St Helens' fascinating and rich history.

St Helens Heritage Festival 2023 took place on Saturday and saw a number of heritage groups, historical societies and other organisations join together to engage with the public and showcase the borough’s history.

A vintage 1960s bus was on display at Victoria Square, courtesy of the North West Museum of Road Transport, as well as St Helens R.F.C. memorabilia, with a dance performance from St Helens-based group, Mucky Mountain Morris.

Made possible by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, St Helens Heritage Festival 2023 also featured a ‘Creative Underground’ room - the result of an ambitious project to uncover the Borough’s rich heritage in the arts, culture, and creativity industries – containing an interactive map, films screenings, flags, information and children's activities.

Organised by St Helens Archive Service, more than 700 people turned out on highlights of the festival included more than 30 exhibitors, including Cannington Shaw Preservation Trust CIC, Rainhill Railway & Heritage Society, St Helens Rotary Club and Saints Community Foundation, who brought along the World Club Challenge trophy, League Leaders' Shield and Women's Challenge Cup trophy, as well as memorabilia from over the years.
