NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS' most famous son is set to perform at the Glastonbury music festival for the first time.

Rick Astley will take to the stage for the first time in his career at this summer's most-anticipated music festival.

The '80s popstar will feature on the festival's main stage, the Pyramid, on the Saturday of the festival.

Astley is set to be the Pyramid's opening act on Saturday, June 24, as he opens the bill.

Other artists named to be performing on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury this year are Elton John, Artic Monkeys, and Guns N' Roses, plus others.

Pop singers such as Maisie Peters and 'Murder on the Dancefloor' singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor will also be performing.

Other hit artists taking to the stages across the festival include Lewis Capaldi, Fatboy Slim, Courteeners, Cat Stevens, Blondie, and Lana Del Rey.

Former Eurovision winners Måneskin will also be playing Glastonbury this year.

Taking to social media, the 57-year-old Newton-le-Willows popstar wrote: "Me and my band are playing Glastonbury!

"So exciting, such an iconic festival to be part of!

"We'll be on the Pyramid stage on the Saturday, see you there."

Astley is best known for his 1987 hit 'Never Gonna Give You Up' - which was written by Whitley resident Pete Waterman.

Glastonbury music festival will take place between Wednesday, June 21, and Sunday, June 25.
