IT may have only opened its doors in November, but Ruskin Spa is making serious waves.

We went down to see what it was all about and what they had on offer at the Dentons Green sports venue that has been transformed after considerable investment.

St Helens Star:

The luxurious interiors add to the atmosphere where you really feel you can just melt away the hours.

St Helens Star:

On arrival I was shown around the site and saw how many – and very relaxed looking - people were enjoying the facilities.

St Helens Star:

The usual spa fair such as nail treatments, brows, waxing in a beautiful salon and massages are available in dimly lit interiors. There is also a pool and steam room available to spa goers and gym users.

St Helens Star:

What sets this place out differently though is the oxygen therapy and cryotherapy treatments.

St Helens Star:

Oxygen therapy, aims to train bodies to work more efficiently by reducing the oxygen you breathe in a safe and controlled environment; and cryotherapy, a machine (which admittedly looks a bit like a tanning bed) people step into until their head is elevated above it.

This exposes their body to between minus 30-40 celsius for up to three minutes to stimulate body and skin receptors.

St Helens Star:

The Soak room, meanwhile, has two free-standing baths in a beautifully lit room available for hire or as part of the spa packages, which I’m desperate to try in the future.
