POLICE have charged a 17-year-old boy with modifying an imitation firearm following an incident in Prescot which saw a huge cordon put in place.

At around 11.30pm on Wednesday, May 24, it was reported that a suspect was on Kemble Street and a loud bang was heard and “four males” were seen running away.

There were no reports of anyone being injured and no evidence of damage or bullet has been recovered.

Following inquiries a 17 year-old boy has been charged with modifying an imitation firearm. He is on bail to appear at Merseyside Youth Court on Tuesday, June 13.

An investigation remains ongoing and CCTV and witness inquiries continue to be carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “Our inquiries remain ongoing as we seek to establish what took place on Wednesday night.

“I am continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Kemble Street at around 11.30pm who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us.

“Guns and weapons have no place on the streets of Merseyside and we will immediately responds to incidents involving firearms to ensure that our communities remain safe and feel safe.

“In 2021 we saw the result of that hard work with the lowest number of firearms discharges Merseyside had seen for more than 20 years.

“The public are our eyes and ears and any information about where guns are being stored or who is using them is vital to the work we are doing.”
