THE SCREENWRITER of a crime drama based on experiences as a police officer in St Helens and Merseyside shared a touching message after losing out on six awards at the BAFTAs.
Written by Tony Schumacher and starring Martin Freeman, The Responder was one of the most popular TV series on the BBC last year.
Party filmed in St Helens and loosely based on tales Schumacher experienced on the beat, the series was written after a long period of stressful situations, mental health struggles, job changes, and even homelessness.

However, with a stellar performance by Freeman, Schumacher's series was celebrated far and wide following its release and was nominated for six BAFTA awards earlier this year.
This included nods for Best Drama Series, Best Actor for Martin Freeman, and Best Drama Writer for Tony Schumacher.
However, despite being one of the leading productions in terms of nominations, The Responder didn't win a single award at the British Academy of Film and Television Awards on Sunday, May 14.
With floods of messages and commiserations sent to Schumacher following the awards snub, he sent a simple and touching statement out on social media.
"So grateful to all who've sent commiserations re the Baftas tonight", he said.
"Honestly, I really appreciate it but here's the thing: Fifteen years ago I was homeless and trying to figure out the best way to end it all.
"Tonight I had a bevy with a bunch of mates.
"I already won. Xxx."
