POLICE have slammed the actions of a group of youths causing trouble for shop staff.

Officers said they are aware of anti-social behaviour involving youngsters stealing items from the Co-op convenience store in Burtonwood.

Officers say that the youths ‘seem to think that everything is free’ inside, and they have also been reported being abusive to staff.

Police are asking parents to ensure they know where their children are during evenings and to ensure they are not causing mischief.

The force’s Burtonwood and Winwick Police team said: “Over the past couple of weeks, as the lighter nights are here and the weather is improving, it sadly seems to bring anti-social behaviour with it.

“We have had a small group causing issues in the Clay Lane and Chapel Lane areas.

“We have also had quite a few reports of theft from Co-op, including a group of youths that seem to think that everything is free and they can abuse the staff as they leave – again, not acceptable.

“If your kids are out in the village, please ask them what they are up to.

“If they seem to have free Lucozade and snacks, ask them where they come from and take them in to pay for it.”
