RETROSPECTIVE plans for works at a Tesco store have been approved after it was deemed they would have no impact on highway safety and would "not form a dominant feature".

The application for the store, on Peasley Cross Lane, has been given the green light by the council.

It sought retrospective consent to install one internally illuminated LCD screen to the electric charging dock, and two non-illuminated flag pole signs.

The officer report states the proposal seeks to retain the existing advertisements to the electrical car charging points that are situated within the main car parking area.

It says: “The proposed signs are of a style and design entirely in keeping with that of commercial premises of this type.”

Furthermore, it also said that the two free-standing flag poles would be situated in between the two rows of car parking bays "so would not cause a hindrance to the existing parking arrangements".

“The flag pole signs have no illumination either so there would be no issues with glare for car drivers,” it added.

'Not excessive'

“The overall height of the flag poles is not excessive, and are at height that alerts the car park users of the electric charging points without being an excessively tall feature within the large car park.

“The LCD screen fitting within the electric charging point housing is modest in scale, and would have no impact upon pedestrian and vehicular safety in accordance with policy LPD08.

“The highway’s officer was satisfied with the details supplied that there would be no impact upon highway safety.

“Overall, the proposed signage are modest in numbers and scale, and would not form a dominant feature within the locality.”

The council has granted advertisement consent subject to conditions.

These conditions include that the consent shall be for a period of five years, and any advertisement displayed in accordance with this consent shall be maintained in a clean and tidy condition to the reasonable satisfaction of the council as the local planning authority.
