A HISTORIC hotel and restaurant in Newton-le-Willows has recreated an original photograph dating back to King George V’s coronation.
The Kirkfield was a former conservative club and is one of the oldest buildings at the bottom of Newton High Street.
Current owners and lifelong friends Terence Southward, Andrew Chinn, and Andrew Cartwright, joined forces to take over the premises six years ago as a hotel, bar, and restaurant.
Several historic photographs are displayed throughout the hotel and restaurant, with one regular pointing out a photograph featuring three former owners of the building, standing outside the former conservative club during King George V’s coronation in 1911.
The regular suggested the trio remake the original photograph to coincide with King Charles III’s coronation.
Terence told the Star: "It’s great, it was actually one of our regulars who mentioned it.
"We’re probably one of the only businesses on the high street who can do that as we were one of the only buildings there in 1911, so it does feel special to be able to do it."
Coronation-themed banners were installed to replicate the iconic photograph, with the banners an addition to the high street’s decorations for the King’s coronation.
The high street is red, white, and blue, ready for its community parade tomorrow.
Terence added: "Like the other events we have, it will be great for the high street.
"We have a great community in Newton, and I think that’s where a lot of the local businesses thrive because the Newtonians support the businesses, and events like this are what create such a great community."
The community parade, organised by Newton and Earlestown Community Group and The High Street Hive, will take place at 11am tomorrow, Sunday, May 7.
