ST HELENS Borough Council leader David Baines has been re-elected unopposed as leader of the Labour group and council.
Cllr Baines, who became leader of the St Helens Labour Group - and the local authority - in 2019, vowed the "carry on with the job" after his re-election by party members at its AGM this week.

Cllr Baines, who is a Windle ward councillor who was re-elected to represent the ward by voters in 2022, is also portfolio holder for climate emergency and renewable energy on the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.

After his re-election, Cllr Baines said: "Thank you to colleagues in the St Helens Labour Group for re-electing me as Leader unopposed for a fourth time.
