TWO men have been released on bail after a fight broke out in a micropub in Prescot.

As previously reported by the Star, a serious incident took place at the Bard pub on High Street in Prescot, at around 8pm on Saturday, April 29.

After a fight broke out in the small pub, it is reported that one man was "assaulted with a glass bottle" and left with a facial injury which required hospital treatment.

Police have since arrested a 46-year-old man from West Derby on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 49-year-old man from Prescot was also arrested on suspicion of affray.

Both men have been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

In a statement on social media, The Bard said: “A serious assault occurred in the Bard last night.

“This is the first (and hopefully last) time anything like this happens in our little micropub.

“I have worked in The Bard for 4 years, having taken ownership during the last 18 months.

“We have never experienced anything like this since The Bard opened in 2018.

“Anyone who has ever been in The Bard knows this would be the last place to expect anything like this to happen.

“We pride ourselves on having a chilled, family friendly atmosphere for people who love a good natter and some great beer.

"Sadly, it happens far too often in the hospitality industry and is far too common in the local area."

After closing for a couple of days following the incident, the Bard will re-open at 4pm today (Wednesday, May 3).

Police enquiries are still ongoing into the incident  and anyone with information is asked to contact the force at @MerPolCC on Twitter, or Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook with reference 23000362230.
