TRAFFIC has been stopped on the M62 following a major traffic incident.
Two HGVs collided on the M62 between junction 12 and junction 11, outside Birchwood.
Traffic was temporarily halted westbound on the motorway due to the severity of the incident.
One lane of traffic has since been reopened, with lanes one, two, and three remaining closed for clean-up and recovery.
Images released by National Highways North West show two HGVs that have collided on the stretch of motorway.
The fire service was also at the scene.
According to the highways agency, the collision has caused six miles of delays, which is resulting in roughly 45 minutes of congestion.
Motorists responded to the congestion on social media, with one driver even getting out of his car to pose for a selfie with the queues of traffic behind him.
