MCDONALD'S has issued a statement following a fire at its Earlestown restaurant yesterday.

Restaurant 'evacuated'

Two fire engines attended the fast food outlet on Earle Street, Earlestown, shortly before 9am on Thursday morning, March 16.

The fire had been extinguished by the time crews arrived but firefighters damped down the affected area and spent around an hour at the scene.

McDonald's confirmed that the fire had been in the kitchen of the restaurant.

The premises was evacuated and temporarily closed while the fire was dealt with.

It has since been reopened again.

A 'small and contained kitchen fire'

A McDonald's spokesperson said: “Our Earlestown restaurant temporarily closed yesterday at 9am following a small and contained kitchen fire.

"All of our people and customers were evacuated safely and emergency services attended to extinguish the fire.

"The issue has now been resolved and the restaurant reopened to the public.”

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) spokeswoman said: "We were called at 8.55am. Two fire engines were sent to the scene.

"The fire was out on arrival and had been extinguished by a member of staff prior to MFRS arrival.

"Crews damped down the affected area and awaited the arrival of a site engineer, before leaving the scene at 9.51am."
