A 10-YEAR-OLD cancer fighter is celebrating after ringing the end-of-treatment bell at Alder Hey Children's Hospital.
Alex Johnson from Newton-le-Willows was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2019 and has since received countless treatments and a bone marrow transplant.
Now, three years after his initial diagnosis, Alex rang the bell to signify the end of his treatments at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Alex’s mum Michelle described the moment of witnessing her son ring the bell as an "out of body" experience.
Sharing the news in a social media post, Michelle said: "Alex said he had goosebumps when we arrived at Alder Hey this morning.
"Alex received treatment at Alder Hey for three years and one month. Countless general anesthetics, lumbar punctures, over two thousand doses of chemotherapy which saved him.
"Today he rang the end of treatment bell to mark all of his treatment at Alder Hey and everything he had to endure whilst under their care.
"It felt like a real out of body experience, but Alex was so happy and that bought me back down to earth.
"It was so important for Alex to do this and to see the nurses who cared for him and for us."
