AN 88-year-old man from Newton-le-Willows has been "overwhelmed" by the community's support in purchasing his book for charity.
Colin Cunliffe, born on Cherry Street, Earlestown, wrote his first book in his 80s about growing up in the area.
His partner Mave's death spurred him on to finally write his own book.

Proceeds from the book were going towards Pancreatic Cancer UK and Kidney Research UK, with Colin pleased to share that he raised £1255 for the causes.
Thankful for the community's support, Colin said: "I am overwhelmed by the incredible response to my book.
"I hoped it would be a success, but it surpassed my expectations in many ways.
"It brought people together, made people laugh, and even cry over the emotion of bringing memories of their childhood.
"Their generosity has been amazing, with many people giving their money and saying put the change into the charity; one Facebook friend in Canada donated £100.
"I personally loved meeting people and having a good natter.
"Many people have waited for this book and given me support; a huge thanks to everyone who has bought the book.
"I would like to think my parents, relatives, and my late partner Mave are looking down on me with a smile on their faces."
Colin also thanked Crumpets Cafe and Mamma J's for allowing him to do a book signing at their premises.
