WHAT a day to be a Saints fan.

Whether you were out in Australia, watching back in St Helens (or anywhere else across the world) the World Club Challenge victory over Penrith was an epic, nerve-shredding, energy-sapping affair.

The 13-12 win, clinched by Lewis Dodd's golden-point, will also go down as one of the greatest and most dramatic moments in the club's 150 years of history.

The scenes in the stadium in western Sydney were incredible, with Australian media suggesting 1,000 Saints fans were inside the BlueBet stadium.

Back home in pubs and bars - which opened at breakfast time to screen the match - and in living rooms, supporters also lived every moment of the drama.

There was the thrill of watching Saints race into an early lead, with Jack Welsby outstanding.

But the tension mounted in the second half as Penrith gained momentum and ultimately levelled at the death.

Many supporters said their nerves were shot as the contest headed for golden-point, but there was an explosion of joy and relief as Lewis Dodd landed that drop goal.
