A LITTER picker from Newton-le-Willows was "sad and disappointed" to find over 40 alcoholic bottles outside a cemetery.

Andy Bulman was doing his regular round of picking litter around the area on Sunday, February 5, and discovered 42 bottles near Newton Cemetery.

Andy joined a local litter-picking group a few years ago as he thoroughly enjoys collecting waste to keep the environment clean.

His enjoyment of litter picking was met with frustration as he discovered the pile of empty bottles of alcohol left outside the cemetery.

Andy said: "I've always been upset and frustrated by litter and have for many years picked up cans, and plastic bottles, etc, as I've been walking about.

"A few years ago I noticed a Newton le Willows group on Facebook where members regularly picked litter; so I joined it.

"St Helens Council provided me with a free Hi-viz, litter picker, and bags, and since then, I try to go out regularly.

"I wear my headphones, listen to music, and can easily while away for several hours.

"There's a tremendous sense of satisfaction in making a difference to our local environment.

"The litter pick along Newton Cemetery Road, which is only about 150m long yielded 42 bottles plus lots of other litter.

"It's sad and disappointing that the litter accumulates so quickly."
