PLANS for an illuminated digital poster display and “vertical meadow green wall” have been withdrawn.

The application proposed consent to display one internally illuminated LED digital poster display, on land adjacent to the Cannington Traffic Island, Linkway West.

A planning document said the proposal was for the installation of a single illuminated “48-sheet digital poster display” and an ancillary “vertical meadow green wall”, and that such advertisements are now “increasingly common” as the advertising industry moves towards “more flexible and sustainable media platforms”.

It added the changing display would present a range of static images on rotation, at the “industry standard of once every 10 seconds” – while advertisement images would not contain any movement, animation, or flashing lights, with the interchange between each advertisement being a “gradual and smooth fade”.

Meanwhile, the “vertical meadow green wall” would have “effectively” been a vertical plantation comprising “various wild flowering species”.

The contaminated land officer had “no objection” to the proposal, but stated that he would request an advisory is included with any consent granted.

He added: “The site lies in a historically highly industrial area and as such a potential for contamination exists.

“The applicant and the appointed contractors should therefore be mindful of this during any groundworks associated with foundations for the sign or power connections.

“Arisings associated with any excavations should be disposed of accordingly and not reused at the surface. Contractors should wear standard PPE.”
