A PARKED car has been significantly damaged by another vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.

At around 9.30pm on Monday, January 16, a vehicle is reported to have collided with a parked Volkswagen Polo in Newton-le-Willows.

The vehicle, which is believed to be a large recovery truck, caused significant damage to the front, back, and side of the Volkswagen, which was parked outside the owner's home on Rob Lane.

The front and rear bumper, as well as the left-side wing mirror were smashed loose from the vehicle, while significant dents and scratches have also been reported.

The incident has left the owner, Imogen Hammond Williams, without a car while it is in repair, out of pocket from the excess claim from the insurance, and the loss of her no claims bonus.

Due to the extent of the damage, it is likely that Imogen will soon have to fork out for a new car, which is something she says she can't afford in the current climate.

Under the Road Traffic Act, it is a legal requirement for drivers to stop and provide their details if they collide with another vehicle.

Confirming the details of the fail to stop collision, Merseyside Police stated that "enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident".

To help with insurance and damage costs, Imogen has been in contact with other residents and local businesses in the attempt to find the vehicle responsible.

She said: "I would be so appreciative if there were any neighbours or bystanders who might have heard or seen anything to aid me in my search for the person who might have committed this crime.

"Accidents do happen, which I completely acknowledge, but the fact that the person left none of their information has put me in a terrible situation."
