POLICE have been carrying out night-time patrols around a community following an allegation a woman was the victim of a serious sexual assault.

As the Star reported last week, the woman was walking home on Parr Stocks Road at about 9.15pm on Saturday, January 14 when she was approached by a man.

She was taken to a grassed area between land where the former Parr Stocks fire station stood and Discount Motor Parts, where the alleged offence took place.

In the wake of the incident, specialist officers could be seen carrying out extensive forensic, house-to-house, CCTV and witness enquiries at the scene.

A mobile police station was set up in the area last week and officers released a series of pictures showing patrols taking place in the area.

Officers said they were responding to the serious incident and known places for anti-social behaviour.

In a statement released last week to the Star, Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry said: "The victim is being supported by specially trained officers as this investigation continues.

"We understand the concern that such serious offences cause in the community and I want to assure people we are assessing all possible evidence to establish what happened.

“I’d continue to ask that anyone who lives locally and has home CCTV or doorbell footage checks their devices between 9 and 9.30pm on Saturday.

"Likewise, if you were travelling in a vehicle with dashcam, please check. Parr Stocks Road is busy with cars and public transport, so any passengers of buses or taxis may have also seen something of value.”
